NRAS Show

I can’t tell you which one is mine, but I’ve contributed work to the “Outside the Box” fundraiser auction, to benefit the The North River Arts Society of Marshfield. All artists were given an 8″ square of gator-board to customize. The work is unlabeled, and the artists will be reviled after the bidding has closed in September. The highlight for me is that my work is being displayed alongside Steve Carell. Read the rest of this entry »

Keep A Breast

Last year I was asked to do a little live painting at Warped Tour for Keep A Breast. Because their famous chest-casts were soggy, I ended up painting some small canvas of luchador chicks battling for breasts. A few days ago I returned to the KAB tent for a second session of painting. Still no boobs to paint on, and also no aerosol this year! I couldn’t use spray paint as part of their Eco-initiative to keep the tour GREEN, which was a curve-ball, but I think the final product worked out. Last year’s event was funny because the moment I put down the brush, the sky went black and began to pour blood and lightning and tornadoes. This year’s weather was equally as miserable, but less violent. While waiting for paint to dry, I had a chance to catch Against Me and Horrorpops last year, and Gallows and NOFX this year. Other painting after the jump.. Read the rest of this entry »

Isle of Misfits Series

Isle of Misfits is where characters are subjected to ridicule, embarrassment, torture, and worship. These works are the testing ground for different methods in painting, as well as working out complex narrative relationships. I’d compare it to putting a bunch of drawings on a reality show to the death. The piece above is on a large canvas, and details traditional life on the coastal shore. More paintings after the jump. Oh Nancy Project

Oh Nancy is a narrative project derived from the twisted minds of Fionn McCabe, and Nate Wellman. I’d consider it part Alice in Wonderland, part Varsity Blues. Above is my depiction of The Corn Team’s athletic aptitude, and mighty sportsmanship.
These 20″x24″ acrylic canvass illustrate Nancy in an “aquatic pickle”, and diverting “aerial temptation”. Illustrating my contribution to to the Oh Nancy mural at the OtherSide Cafe on Newbury St. in Boston. Depictions of Nancy’s mother, and father.

China 2008

Summer 2008 I spent two weeks in China, before the Beijing Olympics. This was my first time going abroad. The trip was organized and hosted by MassArt, and traveled through Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Beijing. While there, in the wake of the devastating Sichuan earthquakes, I got involved in a group exhibition that was customizing kids shoes and dedicating them to earthquake relief. Then I enhanced my shoes with a pair of “heel-wheels” I purchased from a street vendor in The Bund. (After learning the delicate art of negotiating prices). There is this wild psychedelic tram that goes under the Bund Canal. My pal John and I took it for a spin and were astonished by there high-tech-metaphorical-light-displays and wacky-waveable-inflating-tube-men. Also, with purchase of tram ride, we also gained entry to an Aquarium and Sex Education exhibit. We happily discovered lucky rotting sea mammals that people had placed money on in the aquarium, and a deluxe array of perverted sculptures in the sex exhibit. I was struck by the juxtaposition of ancient culture and modern kitsch. That’s basically what the painting above is about. When visiting The Great Wall, we found a giant slide roller-coaster built off the side. That type of defilement to a national treasure, in the name of tourism, had me thinking… Here are some things from my sketchbook. Read the rest of this entry »
